Voiles d’Antibes

I went to the South of France to write a report about the ‘Voiles d’Antibes’, a classic sailing regatta. This was published yesterday in the Belgian SABATO-magazine. Pictures by Jonas Roosens.

Perfumes in the Pool

The Dutch version of ELLE magazine brings a nice perfume production in the June edition. It shows summer scents disguised as girls in bikini, bottles with a maritime air and make-up pallets in a beach bag. The perfect guests for a pool party with a splash!

Create a Picture Show About Water

GOOD magazine is calling all photographers—amateur or professional to communicate the importance, beauty, and wonder of water—as a life-giving resource and a vital habitat—in all its many forms. To accomplish that, GOOD needs you to take a picture that relates to the theme of water. GOOD will select 10 to 15 of them to create a collaborative Picture Show. Once the Picture Show is published, the GOOD community will be invited to choose their favorite images. The winning submission will be printed in the next magazine issue and the photographer will get a GOOD T-shirt and a free subscription.

THEME: Water. We need to live, of course, and, as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill has made clear, it’s an important and at-risk habitat. Let’s pay homage to the vital liquid.

OBJECTIVE: Take a picture of a body of water that is meaningful to you. This could be anything from a bath tub to the Pacific Ocean. Include a short explanation (up to 40 words) of why it’s significant.

REQUIREMENT: Check GOOD takes submissions now through July 16 and will publish a Picture Show with a selection of the submissions on July 19.

Go for it!

Water Yoga

I recently started with yoga and on the internet I found a new type of it related to water. “Woga” is the union of two words: water and yoga. It can be translate like “yoga in water”. Because of gravity absence, water represents the ideal atmosphere: it sweetens movements, unblocks articulations, lengthens and melts muscles and gives the right psycho and physical balance.

Woga is mostly performed in a pool and the exercises are standing or seated on the bottom. It uses special supports and the water temperature should be around 30°C. I didn’t check this Water Yoga out but it could be interesting, although I have the feeling it would be nicer to do some exercises in the shallow part of a warm sea. But before I start to dream of a blue warm sea, back to Ashtanga & Vinyasa lessons in yoga school!

First Love Last Love

First Love Last Love is the first European online community for boarding girls, set up by O’Neill. This community supports boarding girls and organises ‘girls out’ days for yet non-surfing girls to try sports like wave surfing, kite boarding and windsurfing during summer. Grab a board and get in the water!

Sandro Botticelli. I like the work of this Italian painter and especially his “Birth of Venus”. Did you know that Venus, according to classical mythology was born out of sea foam? Here you see her floating out of the water on a shell.

You can admire this painting in the Uffizi gallery in Florence, Italy. It was painted around 1483.

H&M ♥ Water

This summer H&M is taking part in two major benefit projects for water. The partnership with WWF yielded a hippie inspired collection for Divided. The second project is a swimwear collection in cooperation with WaterAid.

H&M is donating 10% of the price of every garment sold to projects providing the poorest people in the world access to clean water and improved sanitation. Two years ago the collection donated over 300 000 dollars. This year WaterAid collection is full of batik-dyed bikinis, swim trunks and comfortable t-shirts that urge everybody who sees them to take action. Get your own bikini or t-shirt now and make a difference!
